BHRT for Women (Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy)

This is for women over the age of forty who have noticed changes in their body, memory, energy, and sexual health. It is at this time in our lives that hormone levels gradually decline. The goal of BHRT is to provide “optimal hormone levels”, not just normal hormone levels. “Optimal hormone levels” will help your mind, body, and sexuality stay strong and healthy during these changes in our bodies.

Custom Thyroid Replacement

Hypothyroidism is a relatively common condition in men and women. Most commonly proscribed thyroid prescriptions only replace T4, and sometimes T3. But for optimal thyroid health, most of us need T1, T2, T3, and T4. If your body has access to all of the thyroid hormones, your body will respond better. We can accommodate for kosher and vegan patients.

Men’s Testosterone Replacement Therapy

This is for men over the age of forty who have noticed low energy, low libido, loss of muscle mass and strength, and overall not feeling the same endurance they had when they were younger. These symptoms of low testosterone are sometimes hard to talk about, but low testosterone is more common then most men think and there are treatment options. The goal of testosterone therapy is to help manage your symptoms, prevent certain health conditions (high cholesterol, heart disease, obesity, and others). As well as improve your mood, energy, and overall quality of life. Through science and clinical research, we know the “optimal hormone levels” that you will need.

Low dose Naltrexone (LDN)

This is a treatment for patients with autoimmune and certain chronic pain conditions. This was originally discovered in 1985 by Dr. Bernard Bihari. It has since been used and studied in many conditions. We are still not 100% sure how it works but there are two theories. The first is that it increases the number of endorphins which boast your immune system. The second theory is that is has a direct affect on a certain T-cell receptor, which also appears to improve the immune system function. This is a medication that was originally used in high doses of 50mg – 300mg per day. What Dr. Bihari discovered is that LDN in a daily dose of 1.5mg – 4.5mg, can have benefit to the immune system and certain chronic pain conditions. I am currently not assessing patients with cancer or Multiple Sclerosis. If you wonder if you are a good candidate for this treatment, we can do a consultation to discuss your options.

Information on my consultation services:

During every consultation, I will review your health history and a comprehensive hormone Lab panel. I will use this information to recommend the best BHRT treatment to provide “optimal hormone levels”. Follow up appointment will be made every three months for the first year to make sure everything is on the right track.

The benefit of using BHRT medications is that they have the exact molecular structure that your body naturally produces. In other words, your body can not tell the difference between the hormones you are prescribed and the hormones your body is naturally producing. Dr. Leaf will determine how you should take BHRT (capsules, skin cream, drops, injections, other).

If you are interested in any of these services, you will need to request an appointment. When you request an appointment, you will be redirected to “OnCallHealth”. On this website, you will request an appointment date and time.

In order to confirm your appointment, you will need to complete these steps:
1. Provide your credit card information to be held on file
2. Complete the Intake Forms
3. Check your email to register your “OnCallHealth” account

Once these three steps have been completed, our office will review your file and give final approval for you appointment date and time.

Insurance Coverage

These consultations are not covered under OHIP. If you have a private insurance plan, they might offer some coverage for the cost of the consultations and/or BHRT prescriptions. It is up to you to contact your insurance provider to determine your coverage.

There will be Lab tests required before each consult or prescription refill as a way to access the treatment proscribed. Most of the Lab tests that are ordered will be covered under OHIP.
